Jenifer Cushing, Au.D.

Jenifer Cushing, Au.D.
Audiologist & Director of Professional Development

Dr. Jenifer Cushing is the Director of Professional Development for Live Better Hearing and practices audiology in the Frederick office. She graduated with a Doctorate in Clinical Audiology from the University at Buffalo and, while there, published over twenty peer-reviewed scientific articles while working at the Center for Hearing and Deafness, more than any other graduating audiology clinician before her. Her expertise is in hearing diagnostics and hearing aids, and she has a unique expertise in electrophysiological measures because of her graduate research.

Dr. Cushing works with patients of all ages including infants and individuals with special needs. She enjoys giving presentations to her peers and to the community on topics related to hearing health and technology.

Away from work, Dr. Cushing enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering in the community, hiking, and trying new adventures.

Ross Cushing, Au.D. has one goal: to make sure each patient seen at any of Live Better Hearing's offices has an excellent experience from start to finish for every appointment.  This means finding the best audiologists from around the nation to serve our patients and giving those providers all the right tools to continuously maintain the highest standards of care.  

Dr. Cushing received his Doctorate in Clinical Audiology and a Masters in Communicative Disorders& Sciences from the University of Buffalo, where he was awarded the honor of top graduating audiology clinician in 2005. He has published professional peer-reviewed papers as well as consumer articles on audiology related topics ranging from tinnitus to best practices for patient care.

Dr. Cushing provides audiology related consultation for the state of Maryland and private companies.He currently is focused on training best practices for tinnitus & hyperacusis assessments and treatment as well as a hearing evaluation and hearing aid protocols.

On a personal note, Dr. Cushing enjoys hiking and swimming, and he loves hanging out with his three kids and his better half, Dr. Jenifer Cushing.

Matthew Higgins

Chief Operating Officer

Matthew Higgins serves as Live Better Hearing’s Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and general management of the company, including oversight of the patient experience and all business operations. As one of the architects of the company’s guiding principles, Mr. Higgins seeks to ensure that Live Better Hearing continues to maintain its core purpose of enhancing the lives of its patients, employees, and the communities in which it does business. In short, he ensures the company remains focused on helping people live better lives.

Prior to joining Live Better Hearing, Mr. Higgins had over 15 years’ progressive leadership experience including sales, marketing, operations, and financial management roles. Most recently, he spent the past decade working for a global biotechnology firm, which is considered by many industry organizations to be the world’s leader in customer care.

Mr. Higgins graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern NH University, finishing at the top of his class, and has degrees in Organizational Leadership and Business Administration.

In his spare time, he has been observed spending an enormous amount of time perfecting the perfect depth and shade of facial hair, as well as admiring his extensive cufflink and sock collection.

Lisa Behringer, Au.D.

Dr. Lisa R. Behringer is a Washington, DC area native. She holds a Doctorate in Audiology from Salus University. She also has Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park (Go Terps!). For over 20 years, Dr. Behringer has provided hearing testing and hearing aid services for various otolaryngologists, hospitals, and clinics in the Baltimore and Washington areas. She lives in Bowie, Maryland, is married, and has two children. In her spare time, Dr. Behringer is a member of the Lion’s Club, a participant in a weekly Live Trivia team, and a super fan of the Washington Capitals hockey team.

Bria Collins, Au.D.

Dr. Bria Collins earned her undergraduate and doctorate degrees at the University of Maryland College Park. Dr. Collins has been practicing audiology in the Maryland region since 2010. She specializes in hearing aids and assistive listening technology.

While at the University of Maryland College Park, Dr. Collins was captain of the women's track and field team and earned All-East and All- American Academic Honors in Shot Put. Dr. Collins is originally from Mt Sinai, NY. She currently resides in Derwood, Maryland with her husband, two kids, and Olde English Bulldog.

Scott Elbert, MA, Audiologist. Scott is an experienced audiologist of over 20 years. He loves what he does because he simply enjoys people and helping people live better lives through better hearing. When Scott is not working he enjoys spending time with his family.​

Cindy Leeb, Au.D.

Cindy Leeb, Au.D.
Audiologist

Dr. Cindy Leeb received her Doctorate in Audiology from Northwestern University in Chicago. She completed her graduate and clinical rotations throughout the Chicago area at locations such as Suburban Hearing Services, Specialized Audiology Services, Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Her clinical externship year was completed at the Hearing and Speech Agency in Baltimore, Maryland. She completed her graduate capstone project titled “Retention by New Hearing Aid Users of Hearing Aid and Audiologic Information” to create a better way to present information to patients who are experiencing hearing aids for the first time.

Dr. Leeb is passionate about helping her patients from diagnosis through follow-up care. She understands that every patient’s needs are different and strives to create an environment where each patient feels comfortable and cared-for. She joined Live Better Hearing in 2015 as the provider in the Elkridge office and is currently the provider in the Rockville office. Dr. Leeb is licensed by the Maryland Board of Examiners for Audiologists. In her free time she enjoys baking for family and friends.

Andrea Liacouras, Au.D., CCC-A

Andrea E. Liacouras, Au.D., CCC-A, is a nationally certified doctor of audiology. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in Elementary Education and Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Dr. Liacouras completed her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Audiology, with a focus in pediatrics, at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. She completed her audiology residency at Georgetown University Hospital and has worked in a variety of hospital, clinical and private practice environments obtaining extensive knowledge in diagnostics, amplification options, electrophysiological and vestibular assessments and evaluations.

Dr. Liacouras treats her patients like family. She believes in empowering her patients with knowledge so that the most beneficial decisions regarding hearing healthcare needs are made. Dr. Liacouras is fully versed in a wide range of hearing aids. She is also fluent in Sign Language. Dr. Liacouras is licensed in Maryland and is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association.

Emily Martinson, Au.D., Ph.D., CCC-A, F/AAA

Dr. Emily Martinson is Live Better Hearing’s Doctor of Audiology at the Chevy Chase location. Dr. Martinson is licensed in Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia.  She specializes in diagnostic testing, evidence-based practice, and managing hearing disorders. She is passionate about finding the best hearing solution for every unique patient across the lifespan, from infants to seniors. She enjoys helping patients with the entire hearing health process from diagnosis to treatment, and is with her patients every step of the way.

Dr. Martinson earned her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) Degree from East Carolina University. Her interest in research led her to pursue a Ph.D. degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from East Carolina University. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and earned a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Martinson enjoys running, local theater, and anything to do with Star Wars.

Shannon Wrabel, Au.D.

Dr. Shannon Wrabel received her Doctorate in Audiology from Towson University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Her graduate clinical rotations included the Baltimore County School System, Saint Agnes Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Baltimore Veterans Administration. Her main interests include: hearing aids, assistive listening devices and the geriatric population. She has been servicing the hearing healthcare needs of patients in the Lutherville-Timonium area since 2006. She joined Live Better Hearing in 2012. Dr. Wrabel stays up to date on all new technology releases and prides herself in being able to service all makes and models of hearing aids. Customer service, attention to detail and exceeding expectations of her patients are her main goals.

Brandon Adawi is a Maryland Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser. He is an excellent provider and a true professional – genuine, personable, knowledgeable, and caring. He knows how to provide the clinical care our patients deserve. What he enjoys most about being a provider is helping people hear better so they can live better. He is a great asset and compliment to the Live Better Hearing!

Caroline Pirtle, HAD/HIS, BC-HIS has been with Live Better Hearing since 2009 and has been in the hearing aid industry for almost 15 years. She is Nationally Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences and was recently awarded the Tinnitus Care Provider Certificate. Caroline is licensed in Maryland as a Hearing Aid Dispenser and in Virginia as a Hearing Aid Specialist. Caroline is excellent at fitting and repairing hearing aids. She enjoys working with and fitting the Deaf population and can communication in sign language.

Asmeret Araia

Patient Care Coordinator

Asmeret Araia is a Patient Care Coordinator at the Elkridge office. She always has a smile on her face and enjoys engaging with our patients and making everyone feel comfortable in the office. With a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Frostburg State University, Asmeret also handles the marketing and promotions for the company. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the beach, watching movies, and playing with her son and dog.

Sarah attended Frostburg State University and came to us with a professional background in customer service. She is also the Online Coordinator for A&A, in charge of updating our website and social networking accounts.

Lauren Bradshaw is the Patient Care Coordinator at the Elkridge office. She’s dedicated to providing excellent customer service to all of her patients. A University of Maryland grad, Lauren also handles provider credentialing and marketing for the company. Outside of the office, she enjoys playing volleyball and volunteers coaching high school volleyball.

Greg Maffett is the Patient Care Coordinator at the Montgomery Village Office. He is very personable and friendly. He goes out of his way to make sure patients are completely satisfied with their visits to our office. On a personal note, Greg does a lot of community outreach in his spare time – helping with local charities. He’s a good guy and he loves his job because he gets to interact with our patients.

On another note, Chrissy is a huge animal lover, and she takes in animals that need homes. Right now she has two Italian Mastiffs, a rabbit, guinea pigs and a bearded dragon.

As someone with hearing loss who wears hearing aids herself, Adriana knows the importance of hearing family and friends. In her spare time, Adriana enjoys painting, spending time with family, reading, and her cat.

Edna Bradshaw is the Bookkeeper for Live Better Hearing. She attended University of Maryland and plays a key role in the company by budgeting and keeping track of transactions and expenses. In her down time, Edna loves crafting, particularly sewing, knitting, and crocheting.

Nick Cushing is the Practice Development Manager for Live Better Hearing. In this role, Nick leads practice development activities to support our organizational vision. Some of these activities include partnering with local physicians, promoting our team at health fairs and senior facilities, and working to ensure patient satisfaction. In his free time, Nick enjoys exercise and listening to podcasts about science, philosophy and human achievement.

Brenda has an extensive background in customer relations and is dedicated to improving billing procedures for a better patient experience. She very much enjoys meeting and working with patients. Patients love to see Brenda because she is very personable and fun to be around.
